I can't seem to find any information on the extension of the triangle expressway/ 540 to the intersection of McCrimmon parkway and Townhall Drive other than the board at that intersection. Has this been called off or is it still in the plans?
It is technically still out there as a potential future project, but realistically it has been called off due to the fact that they do not beleive it will garner much use and toll paying customers.
Another way of looking at it: NCTA played bait-and-switch. They said they would build it and later changed their mind, foisting it off on the City of Morrisville which can't possibly afford it.
Although I think they "technically" foisted it on NCDOT, in a way you're right that building it (or not) may be up to Morrisville. It has an NCDOT TIP number (U-4763A). That does not necessarily mean that NCDOT will build it within our lifetimes, and it is possible that if Morrisville gets tired of waiting for NCDOT to build it, then they could decide to build it themselves.
Another possibility is that whoever develops the land north of McCrimmon parkway will be responsible for its construction.
There are other road extensions in the area on the books as well, including a the extension of Little Drive to Mason Farm Rd, which would have an intersection with the Town Hall Drive extension.
What I'm frankly more interested in is the southward extension of Town Hall Drive to Crabtree Crossing Parkway. I understand that's not very popular with locals but it would be popular with me as a nice way for to bike to work without having to get on NC54 or Davis.
I was looking at a house in Shiloh Grove recently and saw those "dreaded" HUGE reddish colored poles that in my eyes mean "highway coming through!" but based on this thread it seems the triangle expressway extension there has been put on the backburner? the real estate agent I was talking to didn't seem aware of anything to do with the project...any ideas from the rest of you? or if these poles are for some other road?
There is little question in my mind that this will eventually be built since quite a bit of money went into designing the NC147 / NC540 interchange to accommodate this extension. It may be 10 years from now, it may be 20, it may be more, but I would absolutely NOT buy anything nearby based on the assumption that it won't ever be built. I would not buy there unless it were priced as if the extension had already been built.
If you don't care about the future extension or think it will be a plus and increase your values then of course go ahead.

If only this were true. Since they already took a road that tax dollars paid $40-60 million to build and are converting it to toll with no payback to the area road funds, I'm not sure they are too concerned about it. THey only care now about getting a toll road in and if there is not enough car trips to justify it in their formula, too bad so sad.
