1) The over saturation of news media is responsible for this recession lasting so long. When it first hit, the word "recession" was repeated about 500 times a day on television. If the stock market and economy rely on consumer confidence, then I welcome all the good news reports they can muster up.
2) All American media outlets have now resorted to such sensationalism and shock tactics, that they've rendered themselves a joke. ABC News will report on the dire economy, and the minute that it improves, they're out at the gas stations lamenting the uptick in gas prices. It's never-ending.
3) Actually WRAL is nationally regarded as (just about) the best local news station in the country. Much of the western hemisphere and the Caribbean used to carry WRAL as the only CBS station on satellite tv before they started offering local stations. From NY to Atlanta to the Bahamas, people used to watch Greg Fishel tracking thunderstorms in Sampson County, lol.
I haven't been able to tune in much lately. I'm sorry if WRAL is going down. I have watched their news for decades, since the mid 60's. Traditionally, they have had excellent reporters who did a good job covering all the news in their community. Living in Durham, I saw them often give better coverage to us than our own station, WTVD, Channel 11. WTVD does all it can to NOT mention that it is a Durham station. WRAL often would report a few Durham stories, while still mostly covering their own town. Sometimes, WTVD would not even carry the stories WRAL did.
WRAL has long had a good retention of top people. Maybe their management has changed policies on what news to cover and spotlight. Agreed, uneven coverage can give false impressions on current events.

Wow, that's funny. Have you watched the manic debacle that is called the 10:00 PM news? We watch it every night for the screw-ups and wacky production mishaps.
