I visited most of the Raleigh area last month with thoughts of moving out within a year....however I did not make it to North Raleigh, which I hear is more built out, with good neighborhoods, etc.
Can someone let me know some of the better neighborhoods there, without bleeding into any not-so-nice areas (not that I know where those are up there)?
I have two kids, 2 and 4, so I'd prefer an area that's good for kids!
Bent Tree, Madison Park, Richmond Hill, Bennet Park, Brookhaven West, Cross Gate, Pannoia.
And, farther north: Ethans Glen, Carlyle, Chandler Point, Bedford (27613)
Too many to list. Are you looking for older, newer, larger lot size, large square footage, mature trees, neighborhood ammenities like pocket parks and pools ect? Do you want N. Raleigh near the 440 Beltline or N. Raleigh around the 540 Beltline? Nice neighborhoods in N. Raleigh on average can range from the $200Ks to well above $600K. Your wallet will have a lot to say about what specific neighborhoods could be contenders.
- $200-$270K
- I prefer not much older than 5 years I'd say
- At least 2,100 sf
- I'd love some wooded backyards, acreage of at least .20 acre
- Most of all, I just want to be somewhat near retail, good neighborhoods, parks, etc....but I know I still need to deal with the school system, or is it better in some areas?

Pretty tall order in North Raleigh. Not much out there since 2001 with 2100SF and newer in N Raleigh.
You will get more to select from if you will take an older home.
And there aren't amny bad locations in North Raleigh, IMO. As long as you can get in and out of the subdivision.

Yeah, that square footage at that price in a newer home may be hard to come by. You would have more choices if older homes were an option.
Pretty much anything in N. Raleigh will put you close to retail.
Check out "Long Lake". The newest section was finished 2003- 2004, I think. Some homes are in the 2000 sqft. range, and the price are just under 300K. It is a little more than your price range, but you might get lucky
How about neighborhoods between 540 and Wake Forest. Larger treed lot (at least 1/2 acre), homes at least 1600-2000 SF, Wakefield High or Wake Rolesville High, price range $150-$175.
