Tickets for the Hopscotch Music Festival are now on sale. The shows are in downtown Raleigh from September 8 - 10. This is a great chance to see a wide mix of national and local indie bands...

I got my three day pass! I hope they are able to sell out of tickets like they did last year. I'm really looking forward to seeing The Flaming Lips and Superchunk play in City Plaza.

I got my 3-day pass as well. In retrospect, after talking to some people who went last year, I wish I'd gotten a VIP pass. Apparently it was really hard to get into many venues without it. Oh well.

I only did the free daytime stuff last year, and left really impressed by the whole experience. I like the big stage lineup better this year (a big Flaming Lips fan), although my first look at the smaller venue shows only registered a few must sees (and I'll avoid mentioning which those are to give myself the best chance of getting in). But the beauty of the festival last year, for me, was discovering a bunch of bands for the first time.

Oh, yeah, if you are thinking about going, better get your tickets NOW. The 3-day passes are nearly sold out.

I had no problem getting into all the shows i wanted to last year. thought about going the VIP route this year, but then realized that most of the bands that are must see for me will probably not be all that buzzworthy.

What genre? Or a mix?

I would guess that the "curators" (I hate that term) of the festival would say that the genres represented are fairly diverse. But essentially almost all of the bands are playing some form of underground music. That said, you can see punk, metal, indie pop, garage, hip-hop, funk, folk, country, etc etc.
