I will be moving alone from Boston to the Chapel Hill/Durham area. I am looking for recommendations on apartment complexes that would have a fun environment with people my age, as well try to be within walking distance of Franklin Street or the area in Durham that has a good night life (I do not know that area very well). I looked at Southpoint area bc the commute seemed reasonable, however, I would like to live in an area that has more fun unique restaurants vs chain/mall type restaurants. I also looked at Carborro, however, it seems like a different type of lifestyle than me (I'm pretty mainstream).
I looked at places such as shadowood, sunstone, franklin woods etc, bc of location, however ratings online have said those places have cockroaches??
Southern Village and Goverment Village seem like it is in the middle of nowhere and there's nothing really to do without having to drive except go to the weaver market..
If anyone has suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
Just because Carrboro has a more "crunchy" reputation (and certainly a concentration of 'that type' there) it doesn't mean that "mainstream" people don't also live there. I'd say if you found it an attractive area, don't write it off based on a few things you've heard.
Hey OP, there are several places you could check out. Carrboro as you stated, would be in walking distance and they have the funky retail and restaurants. Carrboro is a different place, but you would have to see it for yourself to know if its for you or not. You could also check out around downtown Durham and the Ninth St. area. Downtown Durham is in a resurgence and the energy there doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. New, local restaurants and shops seems to be popping up every other month. Either way I think you should come check out the area(s) for yourself one weekend and just experience each city for what it is. Good Luck!
Thanks, I have checked out CH and Carrboro and Southpoint area in Durham. I think downtown Durham maybe a good fit for me, but what is the commute like? I am never driving during traffic hours and would hate to move there knowing the daily commute is really long.
