Today's N&O has an article on what they predict will be the top 10 story lines in the Triangle for 2011. Looks like they have pretty much covered the main issues and it will be interesting to see how the year pans out. The 10 stories they predict are:-

1. Jobs and Housing
2. State layoffs
3. Wake student reassignment
4. Legislative hot-buttons
5. Raleigh's mayoral race
6. The NHL All-Star game
7. Dukes bid for back to back NCAA Championship titles
8. Innovation and art
9. Durham's changing downtown
10.Opening of Triangle Parkway

One story that I think will grab the headlines in 2011 will be the outcome of the John Edwards Federal Grand Jury. If he is let off there will be outrage that he got a 'free pass' in very dubious circumstances; and if he is found guilty it will be interesting if he gets a prison sentence, or if he is paroled on sympathy grounds following Elizabeths Edwards death and the fact that he has care of the children.

I agree ... add Gov Perdue to the list too.

If my name was Huey Long, I'd run for office too

very perceptive comment - todays N&O advises that:-

Gov. Bev Perdue has hired two of the state's most prominent criminal defense lawyers as scrutiny of her 2008 campaign activity continues.

Raleigh lawyers Joseph B. Cheshire V and Wade Smith are both assisting Perdue, whose office declined to comment.

In a statement to The News & Observer, Cheshire said that Perdue, a Democrat who was elected in 2008, asked both of them to be available to her "to answer any questions she might have" after reports surfaced last year that her campaign was under a criminal investigation

Interesting that they also represented ex Gov Easley, and are representing John Edwards - looks like plenty of work for some

If Meeker is a shoe-in if he decided to run. Does he have any political "enemies"?
