My wife just returned from NC. Her sole purpose for making the trip was to research areas one last time before we decide where to build our new home... We've both been to the area several times and are trying to narrow down where exactly we want to live...I have a job offer in Cary, NC and she will be working in various places in and around the Raleigh area. We are looking hard at the Fuquay area...Havent' read to many posts on this area, have seen some good and some not so good. We don't mind the commute as we found we can get a little more house for our money there. We are looking to build in the Southern Oaks Community..This would mean are kids going to Fuquay schools. Does anyone have factual information on the schools here? They area still on the traditional schedule...My wife toured the schools and said although they are a little dated compared to the newer ones in Holly Springs, still appear to be good....We do have an option to build in Holly Springs, Braxton Village, and are really struggling to decide between the two...Also, due to the build time for our home 6-7 months, can anyone recommend a good apartment complex that is family oriented in either Cary, Holly Springs ect...?? Thanks for all who reply...I am hope to get some real honest info from people who have lived in these areas can help with this tough decision.

I believe Holly Springs may have been one of the schools to be switched to year round this year..... they did it to 30 schools in the district and most of them were in SW Wake County. The school disitrict is county wide so there are no "Fuquay Schools" to speak of. There is a Fuquay High School; but it's just one highschool that is part of the Wake County School district.

During my research, I found that they are building or already have a landfill in Holly Springs. I'm sure some locals have the accurate info on that. Also, rentdotcom has lots of nice looking apartments in those area's.

Personally I would stay away from Fuquay. Nothing bad about it but the population is exploding far beyond the means of the infastructure. I had to go there the other day and 401 in Fuquay was worse than I 40 around the airport at 5pm. New lights continue to go up for some reason and it seemed within a stretch of 2 miles through town I went through 10 lights. I haven't heard anything bad about the elementary schools, but here some horror stories about the Middle School, It's terribly run down, and has some questionable chacters in attendance, but I suppose that might be about everywhere now. I live in the Park at West Lake. Fairly conveniant to everywhere with 2 fairly new elementaries, 1 middle and 1 high school within walking distance. Just my $.02

Default Living in Fuquay-Varina

What did you and your husband decide? Are you happy where you're living.
My husband and I faced the same decision, Southern Oaks or Braxton Village. We decided on Southern Oaks. Our home is scheduled to be completed by April 1, 2008. I loved our model, The Shasta, and we picked out a lot on a cul-de-sac. Could you tell me your experience with the builder?

Thanks,
Mindy
