Paper is reporting that the Sunset Grill, along with the mini golf, and the boat sales lot have been sold to an investor. Reportedly other properties across Bayshore are also being sold to him as well, essentially everything on both sides of Bayshore from the park to 41. The investor is the former CEO of MGM Properties so he knows what he is doing and should have the funding. The project coming in, to misquote the Kia dealer, is gonna be HUGE!

It is going to be years in completion but will probably change the nature of the neighborhood, hopefully for the better

I'm for leaving it as it is.

I'm with you..such a beautiful location and a perfect spot for a restaurant. The problem is, most restaurants fail within the first year. Couple that with the FL issue of a population that drops off dramatically after April and it is a real challenge to properly manage this type of business.

With the views and proper ownership this place would be a goldmine. People talk about how bad the food and service are but still go back for the views.

The views AND the drinks. Which is where the real money is.

Their problem is the huge inside dining area which is usually [half] full of non-drinking early-bird special seekers willing to eat substandard food at a slightly reduced, or increased price (for the view). There is no money to be made there.

Nighttime, when the inside closes and live bands are outside, is when the money is made. And their old Sunday on-the-deck mimosa specials also.

To pay the "rent", the next owner will probably renovate the inside, add a sports bar and focus on the high profit alcohol margin. Maybe even a club type atmosphere inside to attract a younger crowd. Might not be what many here want, but it would make serious money. And that's what I'd do with it, if looking to make money and stay in business.

I'm surprised the county didn't either buy it up or try to get it via imminent domain in order to turn it into more parkland, thereby connecting the new park at the east side of the 41 bridge and Live Oak Park.

I'm glad the county didn't acquire it. CC has considered itself a real estate investor for FAR too many years on the taxpayers dime, and proven it doesn't have a clue what it's doing. Plus, unfortunately, our parks just end up as hangouts for the homeless & druggies. There's always a dozen or so calling bayshore park home, where the fireplace is. Waterfront homeless coalition!

I find it amazing that on one side of the Peace River Punta Gorda has such clean and family oriented parks and then on the Port Charlotte side it's a homeless haven. If only the PC gov would replicate whatever the PG gov is doing...
