I awoke to the disturbing noise of the wind and the rain. Keep listening to see if it was going away. 5 min later I received the alert on my phone said that a tornado was in effect from 4:45am - 5:15am. Stupid me just stayed in bed waiting for it to pass. Thankful, no tornado happened. Sad that people died from this storm.

That's what my husband did. I got the weather alert on my phone, saw the tornado warning ( we were right in the middle of the area where they told folks to get to a safe spot), and tried to get him up, but he wasn't having any. He wouldn't move, told me to just go to the basement ( so where are there basements in Florida, we don't have one) if I was worried.

He didn't remember any of it later, and wondered why I didn't wake him up to see the pyrotechnics we saw locally here.

Our poor daughter went through a tornado at the age of 6 with my mother, at her house. And she happened to be in Port Charlotte, at the Banana Bay during the Sunday tornado warning. She made her boyfriend join her in the bathroom with their dog.
We were in Punta Gorda, heard the storm, and both thought, "Good! The storm is earlier than predicted, hopefully it will be nice earlier in the day too!" which it really wasn't. Sunday was COLD and WINDY!!!!

That it was. But that was the cold front that was responsible for the storms on early Sunday AM. At least it was sunny for part of the day. We watched the water rise with the winds and tides on Saturday, came up over our dock and riprap a while, then receded when the tides went out. We saw a confused little blue heron who hangs out by our dock and loves fishing along the riprap just stand there at the edge of the lawn and look at the water as it came up. Seems he wasn't quite sure what had happened to his fishing grounds. He was happier later as the water receded and his landmarks came back.

Your poor daughter, I can imagine she had a deja vu moment when she heard those tornado warnings. Wouldn't have blamed her if she'd tried to crawl into her purse with the little doggie.
