What's the Psychology Behind Women/Men Selling Their Bodies Or Using their looks exclusively to make money? (attractive, complex)

In some cases there could be issues of low self-esteem or drug addition, etc., but don't let these quick, easy stereotypes fool you into thinking that once you understand these stereotypes, you understand the psychology of sex workers. Reality is far more complex. Not everyone shares the view that sex for money is necessarily bad or degrading. This might be a challenge, but try, for a moment, to imagine feeling as though most of society has their heads up their asses. Imagine asking yourself: "Why should anyone care if I accept money for sex? It's a win-win situation! I get money and the other person gets to party. Why should that be bad?" In this case, the psychology comes in the form of an attitude - a feeling that way too many people are way too hung up on sex, and way too obsessed by what other people are doing in their private time. Given this attitude, it can feel good - even empowering - to go against the expectations of the mundane, stuck-up, prudish masses. Imagine feeling pissed off that there are so many self-righteous, goody-two-shoes out there getting their collective noses all up in your private business. You might find yourself thinking: "What right do they have to tell me what I can and can't do with my body when all I'm doing is helping people have a good time?"
That's just one example of one sort of psychology. There are many more, but I suspect the one I've just offered is fairly common. (BTW, I've talked with sex workers and sex-positive feminists, and I am friends with a variety of folks who are socially and/or sexually off the beaten path, so I have first-hand familiarity with an endless variety of different attitudes and psychologies. It's not all a bed of roses, but most of what is going on in "alternative" communities seems, to me, to be very positive, and is nothing much like the stereotypical images that most mainstream people seem to have of "those depraved people".)

How is your looks any different from any other attribute of yours that you can sell, like you intellect, your athletic skill, your musical talent, your education, etc.?
Considering it's normally illegal, I'd say the psychology of it will have a lot of similarities to say selling drugs.
It'd probably be very similar if both were legal too. It'd probably just be a non-issue that a certain set of people do. For example, do we really make a big deal out of those who get massages? Or walk the beaches with thongs or speedo's on? Do you care that Salvia is a legal hallucinogenic or care if anyone even takes it?

Depends. It's "normally" legal in Australia, Switzerland, and a few other countries. So does that change anything? No more psychological similarities to selling drugs? Just another career choice?

Actually if "Just another career choice" means "how they choose to make money" then ya that can probably sum it up. The choice is probably more financial then psychological.

I don't remember that booth at Career Day in my high school. And I would think that I would remember a booth like that.
I'm sure the reasons why people are in the industry are as varied as any other business. I believe the main motivation is Easy money. People will most naturally go for the easiest thing they can do that provides the most reward.
If I was super attractive and good looking wealthy women wanted to pay me to go out with them I may have a number I would take. The emphasis is "Good looking women" though
If you really want to find out what the people who are in the industry think Google Escort Blogs and you should be able to find out exactly how they got into the business instead of coming up with your own reasons.
