I don't know if they are "worthless"... when was the last time someone won the national championship game without landing in the top 25 of the preseason polls?

it's not about teams that start out of the 25(well, I guess you could find an example or two), but it's more about the teams in the 6-25 area, or maybe even 4-25 area. There's been alot of years where a team ranked out of the top 3 or 5 were actually better, played a tougher schedule, etc than the top 3 teams, but because they were placed in that position without anyone seeing them play, they basically had no shot at the title because the teams ahead of them did not lose while possibly playing a weaker schedule.

How many times have we seen after 4 or 5 weeks, see a top 3 team not be as strong as we thought? Sure, they keep winning, but they are squeeking by, sometimes on a weak schedule, while you have a team ranked 8th beating the devil out of good teams. That 8th team rarely will make it to the top 2, unless those top 2 lose 2 games, whereas if the first poll had come out during week 4 or 5, that 8th ranked team would be in the top 2.

The above is true, but doesn't work like that.

Oklahoma is an obvious favorite. I think their schedule and talent, I think they are a lock. As much as I like A/M and Okie St.

Alabama is loaded, but it's in the SEC. Stuff can happen.

The way FSU gets in the big game is if;

They beat OU

Alabama is upset

FSU runs the table.

I think they will keep anyone else out of the race. Oregon is good but they face LSU and Stanford.

TCU should be higher than 15...that's ok, guess we'll have to show them again, just how talented this team really is....

I know TCU lost Andy Dalton, but I thought they also lost a lot of guys on defense as well... probably why they fell so far in the rankings. When you switch to a new QB there is always an adjustment.

Anyway, here are my pre-season (way too early) picks to win each conference...

SEC-- LSU (never count out the mad hatter!)

Big 12-- OU (I think they will run the table this year... Broyles will be a Heisman runner up )

Pac-12
-- Stanford (this team will be all about Andrew Luck-- I predict he will win the Heisman)

Big 10-- Nebraska (that's right... Nebraska. After a terrible finish for Martinez, he returns for some ass kicking)

ACC-- FSU (no surprises here... besides FSU finally returning to glory)

Big East - I like West Virginia

Mountain West - Boise State

Sun Belt - Troy

WAC- Nevada

Conference USA- Houston (they have Case Keenum back for the 1000 year in a row <well it seems like it...> btw my bold prediction is he will be in the Heisman top 4)

National Championship: LSU vs. OU-- LSU wins it all

Not if the preseason #1 runs the table.

If Boise State was ever a preseason #1 when they went undefeated, they would have played for a BCS MNC. Same goes for TCU.

Preseason polls are far from worthless.

As for this poll; LSU, FSU, Stanford and TCU ranked too high.

USCe, oSu and Nebbish ranked too low.
