Hello,
We are starting a family and already have a 2 year old son in Santa Rosa CA, but we are strongly compelled to move elsewhere. After much research, we have been drawn to Prescott Arizona with the possibility of surrounding areas, but would like to avoid Phoenix. My fiance is currently a Certified Nursing Assistant while he continues his education to become a nurse, while i continue my education to be a Radiology Technician (X-ray tech.). I am curious to know what the job opportunities are for occupations such as these, and what areas would be most beneficial to our careers. We are taking a trip to Prescott Az in march to view the area, is there anything I show know or see while I'm there? Are there opportunities for hospital jobs in these areas? Good place to raise kids? (I LOVE a small town feel and taking my son to community events) Not very concerned with gun permitting as guns are common here as well. Please tell me all you care to! thank you!

Careers at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott

If you want non-desert (green ), I would also check out the Payson area and the Show Low area when you visit Arizona.

Prescott has very nice weather. However, the town seems a little run-down. The downtown park looks like a dumpster place. The north side and east is good.

Granite Park is a no mans land, with a minimal police presence after dark.

I think you will be balancing job and education availability vs weather vs what community you like.

I am not a medical professional, but I would expect Prescott (or close by) to offer the best educational and employment opportunities.

What are you and your husbands interests when not working? Hiking, Fishing, Golfing, etc. and how many days will you be here for when you take the trip down? I have a friend that just moved to Prescott (Well Prescott Valley) who is a nurse as well. He works for Native Air and was able to transfer here with Native Air. However, he has also been able to pick up some shift at the hospital in Prescott Valley pretty easily. He is very much a go-getter though so that may have been why his success in the transfer and finding additional shifts has seemed so easy for him, as I have no knowledge of the medical field here and job opportunities. I just know he had success quickly.

I have never seen a dumpster place in Prescott. I have seen Prescott listed as one of the best small cities to retire in numerous magazines. see link below

Prescott also ranks as the #8 town in AZ to raise a family. I agree!

We love the outdoors, hiking especially. Otherwise, we wouldn't mind taking the 90 minute trip to Phoenix every once in a while to do other various activities/fun things. Mainly, we want an area to raise children that is safe and community oriented. I have read online that Prescott has many community gatherings on summer weekends, is this true? We will only be there for five days in March, mainly to view prescott and surrounding areas. We will be viewing the neighborhoods and downtown area. I am completely open to suggestions of places i should see while I am there, so if you have any I would love to hear them. Thank you for your time! -Abby
