I'm coming up to Portland to catch a flight early the next day and hotels are really expensive and paying airport parking will stretch me really tight.

Does anyone know if there are any lots farther out from the airport that I could park really cheaply for a week-plus and ride a (very) early shuttle, etc to the airport? I'm desperate to save some cash!

Thanks!

I don't recommend this, but I think the only way to accomplish what you want to do is park your vehicle in a safe looking neighborhood along the red line for MAX, park it there and hope nothing happens to it. But it may get towed or broken into. I can appreciate money being an issue, but there are just times when money has to be spent.

Here's a couple of suggestions:

It's illegal to park on the street for more than 24 hours, so you could be ticketed or towed. Be careful with that. And the Park and Ride lots that Trim-Met have use the same 24-hour limit.

There are cheaper, off-site parking lots at PDX - but it's still $6-8 a day. Hotels like the Super 8 allow 7 days free parking and shuttle to the airport with a night's lodging (around $70). There may be less expensive ones.

Where are you coming "Up" from? Can you take public transportation to downtown Portland, and then catch MAX to the airport?

eh, a bit on the paranoid side? I've had my car parked for 3 months outside my apt (broken down) and nothing has happened to it yet. Of course, I'm a good half a mile from the nearest MAX stop. Yeah I know, I'm gonna get it fixed soon. I find the "24 hour" rule kind of absurd. BTW, if they do ticket me, how do they know I'm not driving when nobody's looking.

Not paranoid, just like to obey the laws. Enforcement is going to differ by neighborhood (and who lives there ... and might report it). But anywhere that it is convenient to park and get on MAX - you can bet they're going to be checking.

You probably live where parking isn't at a premium. I do, and you can believe me ... if you'd been parked outside my house for that long, I'd of called parking enforcement myself.

If I were coming from out of town like the OP, I would be paranoid about parking illegally on the street for more than a week. I can just imagine getting off the MAX in a strange neighborhood with all my luggage after returning from my trip and finding that my car is nowhere to be found.

When you rent a room make sure that the shuttle leaves early enough. That happened to us once as they made a big deal of the shuttle but we couldn't use it.

Look for coupons on the Internet for long term parking. Again, assure that they are offering 24 hour shuttle. I would NEVER park for an extended time on the street.
