Most of the people I work with in Beaverton live in East Portland. I do not understand why. West Portland is so much closer to work, has nicer scenery, better people, attractions, downtown, restaurants and shopping. I see east Portland as having all the charm of Omaha.

What is your favorite part of the Portland Metro Area:

Southeast, Northeast, Northwest, or Southwest

Obviously they see something there you don't. Mt. Tabor, Hawthorne, Alameda, Hollywood are all great places. Maybe downtown is not their particular thing.

And "better people"? Really?

You obviously haven't spent much time on the east side.

I'm curious though...why did you move here? You really don't ever have a thing positive to say about Oregon or Portland.

I've lived in both areas and I liked them both but I prefer the SE side of town because it's more city-ish and easier to get around in by bus. I like the fact that in the SE, and NE part of town you can live in an area where you can walk to stores, restaraunts and entertainment. I was born in Chicago and I like a city-type environment.

I love Portland but just do not like the East Side of the River as much!

It's slightly cheaper.

Like PNW-type-gal said, really? Seriously? How does one even begin to quantitate that?

Depending on who you say that to, that could be taken as quite a compliment.

I love every part of it except the North part... aka north of the river Washington 'burbs. Portland isn't perfect, but overall is an incredible city and there are wonderful parts in all 5 segments of the city and all four segments of the metro.

Really? Who'd have guessed it from all the negative threads you start.

But to take the subject seriously. Far East Portland is much less expensive to live in. Personally, I find Beaverton and east Portland (east of I-205) very similar. Uninspiring flat land, strip malls, and housing developments. Neither would be my choice of where to live.
