Just remember, the upper Clackamas above Estacada is not open to salmon/steelhead, and shore access on the lower Clack is mostly private.

Boat show mostly, unless you are local and know the "spots".

Sandy can be the same.

In all my decades of steelhead fishing, I have found the the "bobber and pink plastic worm" method works the best for beginners.
Google is your buddy.

BTW, don't get caught up in the "mystique" of steelhead fishing.
It hinders more than helps.
That's all I will say.

Also NA=Native American.

WA has a lot more private shoreline than OR!

Should have considered (2) ID's and retaining a permanent addy in OR (there are a few advantages in each state).

ID may be more 'preferred', but SD is tough to beat (one overnight per lifetime for income tax free domicile)

Many people keep LOTS of ID's (for various benefit). I wish I would have got my Singapore PR (most useful passport in the world.)

Some of us just buy a hunting/fishing/shellfish licenses in the State we live in and get temporary two or three day licenses when we want to fish other places.

That way we can enjoy ourselves without having our conscience nag us, have a carefree good time.

BTW, for those of us wishing to game the system, can you explain what ID, SD and PR mean?

In case anyone cares at this point, Willamette springer salmon is just starting to turn on.

There is no commercial fishery on the Willamette, so if you want one, you have to catch it yourself.

Wild ocean troll caught spring salmon should be available soon, but at 20 bucks a pound for a 10 pound (large) whole fish, you better have some spending money.

Spring Chinook Salmon are the cream of the crop, no better tasting salmon exist.

This is why some of us spend our money on boats and legit fishing licences.
