My original date of October 1, 2013 has moved up to June 1, 2013. After visiting Portland last week, I came to the following conclusions:
  • It is really difficult find a job from another state, especially when the skills I have can be easily found locally.
  • I can really do this. After being in Portland for five days, I wasn't afraid of accomplishing my goals. In fact, I realized I was stressing over things, because I wanted to find a way to not do it.
  • I have seven months worth of living expenses and with companies already e-mailing and calling, I know I can find a job within a few months at the worst.
I'm already renting a room from a wonderful couple for the month of June. I have my finances planned out, and I'm still applying as much as I can. I plan on renting a room until I have had a job for at least three months and my finances are back in order.

I am excited about this. But for now, I must deal with my supervisor who now hates me.

Be careful if the supervisor who now hates you is someone who will provide a reference for your next job.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, this is something I can't help. I informed him of my decision to move over a year ago and have provided him with a month's notice. He's upset, because I'm one of his best, and he meets challenges with negativity. I am providing him with a detailed listing of my duties, a resource binder, and guides on how to complete projects I do for him. If he decides to give me a bad reference due to the fact that I'm moving, I have no problem with bringing this up to human resources. I refuse to be intimidated by his actions and will only greet it with a smile. After all, I'm moving!

Good luck!

Despite all the perceived negativity/people trying to give a reality check in this forum (including myself in that,) sometimes you just have to go for it. At least you've taken our comments to heart, but only you really know if you're sufficiently prepared or not.

Thank you so much. I agree.

Soon after I started the thread, I received an e-mail stating I was one of the finalists for the other position I interviewed for. They just contacted my supervisors, so I'm excited to know that I might have a job as soon as I get there!

I am so happy for you.

As a retired HR Specialist I suggest you give your current supervisor the social equivalent of a hug, tell him/her that you will miss them and do whatever you can to make the transition to your replacement easier. It may be fluff but look at this from the supervisor's POV, your absence will hurt a lot. Verbally kiss the bruise.

Looks like you are doing everything you should do for a smooth transition out of your current job. No wonder your supervisor does not want to lose someone like you, but you being a good resource is no reason for the supervisor to interfere with your choices.

Good luck again.

I just received a job offer!

My last day at my current job is the 30th, and I will start my new job on the 5th. I am so excited. My co-workers were laughing as I did my usual dance. I am so happy!
