I'm also pretty sure that using dogs to hunt (unless retrievers) is illegal in Oregon. Either way, there aren't a lot of rabbits in Oregon at all. Your small game is mostly ground squirrel in South Eastern Oregon.

The only hunting my ex-brother-in-law did was rabbit hunting in Eastern Oregon. So they must be there. The Fish & Wildlife site includes them among game listed.

Conversely, I've never heard of anyone in the family hunting squirrels (except maybe my grandfather who grew up in Arkansas doing it).

Must just be one of those things where, if your family did it you're aware of it. If not, you're not.

I figured there would be rabbits of some type just about everywhere just like other rodents. Can anyone verify that it is illegal to use dogs to pursue game in Oregon?

I do not think it's illegal. There was a law that they attempted (or maybe did) pass regarding using dogs to hunt cougars. But I think it's probably legal for most game. Check that website, I'm sure it'll say.

There are plenty of hunting opportunities in Oregon. With and without dogs.
This is not the internet place to find out though.

In last few weeks, I have hunted over my Labrador for pheasant and quail in eastern OR, duck and geese near or on Sauvie Island just north pf Portland. Buddy and I each shot a goose this am.

There is deer hunting on public land all around Portland. Just have to look for it.

Me shoot a sea lion? Where did you get that? I don't own or use a gun. Period.

I wouldn't be unhappy if someone else removed sea lions upstream of say Longview.

I doubt there's any big game in Oregon that you can hunt with dogs. I know you cannot hunt for cougars/mountain lions using dogs. Using dogs to find, flush, and retrieve downed birds is a different matter altogether and is allowed. My spouse and many of our friends hunt and I'm not aware of anyone who hunts rabbits or squirrels in Western Oregon, although I'm sure there's no rule against shooting them on your own property if you live somewhere where you can actually legally shoot on your own property.

The only hunting I'm aware of within 30 minutes of Portland is duck hunting on places like Sauvie Island.
