I found this craigslist posting and I wonder if it is real, and if so, I wonder if there are many in this price range. I know it is not common to find good rentals on CL, and that it will be easier to walk/drive around areas looking for signs...and since I am not there yet, I have no idea what kind of prices will be on those signs.

Maybe this is a bad neighborhood...although looking at google street view it looks decent.

Here is the text from the post.

$700
-1260 square feet, 2bed 1 bath plus bonus finished attic
-Large lot
-Hardwoods
-Updated bathroom
-Extra large one car garage with storage space
-Great spacious fenced yard

Address: 3537 SE 70th Portland, OR 97206

Thanks!

hmmm.... It's possible, but are you sure it's not just a "looking for a roommate" situation?

It's not the greatest area. You might want to check the crime stats for the area at PortlandMaps.

Looks fishy for sure.

You will pretty much NEVER see whole house rental in Pdx for less than $1000/month.

I would google the ad or address, and see if any real estate or rental company ads pop up. Sometimes people will just repost real properties at ridiculous prices just to fish for your information. Someone will probably figure this out and post a retraction on craigslist soon enough.

Thanks for the info!

I figured it was too good to be true, but like I said I am not there so not really sure of the common price ranges.

Thanks all for your help

As PT Barnum is reputed to have said "There's a sucker born every minute."

But thankfully that is not you. Good job discovering the scam.

$700 for a house anywhere in the Portland-Metro area is unheard of.

My own mortgage payments are quite small (less than $450) but if I wanted to rent it out down the road, it would easily climb to $1000 after figuring in property taxes and a modest amount for maintenance.
