Hey everyone! I am new to this site, but I am trying to get some good feedback on thoughts about Oregon as a good place to relocate to. I live currently with my hubby in Nashville, TN and we want to get to somewhere different with more options and hopefully a little less humidity, shorter summers, and cooler weather. Is it true that there is alot of mist/rain and not many sunny days there? I am originally from Upstate NY and do miss it from time to time. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist and he is a Quality Assurance Analyst and we are hoping to move in about 2-3 years. I would love to know what the job market is like possibly for us.

What are some good areas for relocating? I have heard great things about Oregon. Can anyone give me some insight on taxes (state, property, sales) and some general info about jobs, living that we might need to know? We don't have children and are in our early to mid- 30's. Just looking for honesty...thanks!

Thanks!!!

Yes, you've described the climate here accurately. Compared to upstate NY, we get a lot less of the snow & deep freeze in the winter - we get chilly fog and rain and some sunshine most of the winter.

The job market is not great right now. Oregon has no sales tax so the income and property taxes are a bit higher than other places.

Weather - gray and rainy from October to May and even June sometimes. Summers are enjoyable with a couple weeks total of 90-100* temps.

Job Market - really really suffering right now. Get your jobs lined up BEFORE coming out.

No Sales tax in Oregon but they make up for it in property taxes. Our 2100 sq ft. home on a small lot in the burbs was about $4000 a year in property taxes.

Good areas to look into: West Hills/Beaverton/West Linn/Lake Oswego/Eastmoreland/Sellwood/NW PDX/Bethany/Sylvan/Wilsonville. It all depends on your budget and if you will be renting or buying.
