Kids out of the house, so school district not an issue. Like to be 1/2 hour or less outta town. Need a little room/yard for two greyhounds, 6k SF or larger lot desired....

First post, hope to learn a lot about where to buy, moving from TN to the Portland area early 2011...

Thanks

Scappoose? A little 'outside' the area, no? As far as a commute. My wife is doing 60 a day for and aft now here to work, so kind of looking for maybe less than 15 miles t most, adjusted for volume and traffic, etc...

Honestly, there's not much that matches that price and the requirements. On the other hand, rent for 6 months or a year or so and prices should be even lower. I'm guessing that there are enough desperate landlords that your dogs won't be a frequent deal-breaker.

Sales of houses still has not bottomed up there ??

Scappoose is too far out of the city in my opinion..and that's NOT taking in the traffic jams. Sales of homes have not really bottomed yet. I live in a great neighborhood 25 minutes out of downtown PDX and our home is listed right now for $300K (our purchase price 2 years ago was $410) The rental market is MUCH better here than buying a home right now. You can get exactly what you want where you want it for a good price.

check out craigslist and keep a tap open on google maps but honestly I don't think you'll get a house in portland for that price your best bet would be somewhere in the mid west.

We are going to rent to start for sure. Probably pick out an area/house per what ever gainful employment my wife gets. Not sure what my employment hopes will be.
