Tiger Woods is playing in the Masters. Many in the crowd of spectators are holding up banners about his extra-marital affairs. MSNBC showed a film report of an airplane flying a large banner about his extra-marital affairs. Obviously, someone had the time, money and enthusiasm for the airplane.
The accusations of The Pope being involved in cover ups of priests that rape children continue. The Vatican is spewing fire at all who dare to criticize the Pope during the years he was Cardinal Ratzinger.
Tiger Woods had extra-marital affairs with consenting adults.
The priests forcefully raped juveniles against their will, leaving a trauma for the rest of their lives.
The Catholic Church is an old institution, often assocciated with preaching moral values.
Tiger Woods is a golfer.
In America, it seems that Tiger Woods' extra-marital affairs meet the most outrage and disgust, while, compararively, the Pope and his Vatican gang get off fairly easy.
Does this reflect America's priorities?
I wonder if anyone would fly a plane pulled banner in the sky above St Peter's Square?

ESPN commentators are all over Tiger Woods at the Masters Golf Tournament 2010, and in a good way. One reporter said the reception of Tiger from Masters spectators was "100 percent positive, not 98 percent, not 99 percent -- 100." Well, almost. Tiger did face some nastiness while he walked the greens at Augusta National...check it out.
Quote:
There are hundreds of Masters security guards gracing Augusta National Golf Course, many of them dressed in plain clothes in an almost-undercover attempt to keep Masters spectators on their best behavior. And as one reporter noted, Masters officials and security are doing a great job of controlling anything ill on the ground -- but they can't control what's going on in the sky.
We thought they were referring to the less-than-ideal weather forecast some meteorologists are predicting, but indeed, there's a plane flying over the Masters Golf Tournament with a banner reading, "TIGER, DID YOU MEAN BOOTYISM?"
Just a few things. The Augusta National Golf club WON'T allow signs onto the grounds. There was an airplane flying around, but only b/c they (the club) couldn't close down the airspace. Trust me, with ticket(s) going for $850+ and those told if they violated the rules, they would not get their passes back EVER...no one was going to allow crazies into the grounds.
The pope on the other hand WAS/IS capable of closing the airspace, and has.

Tiger's sex life makes better headlines for supermarket tabloids and gossip TV. It is outrageous that the Pope's cover-up and the sex-offenders priests can get away without ever facing criminal court. Why isn't this covered as much as Tiger? It certain ruined a lot more lives than Tiger did.
Come on, don't rely on a goofy comparison. We all know it's about the explosive mix that is politics & religion. Tiger Woods is a big deal, but the Vatican he ain't. Papal infallibility is still dogma in Roman Catholic faith, correct? The media treating the Pope with kid gloves should be no surprise.
The Pope does not do anything new. That's how the church handles and has handled those cases for decades.
I don't think the Pope is to blame, anyway. Blame the gov't. that has not prosecuted them, apparently. THEY need to do it. What the hell you want from the Pope? He's not a judge. I despise the church, but I do not see how the Pope is to blame here.He can't protect them from facing criminal courts... can he?
The Pope was involved in a cover up before he was the Pope.
How could they prosecute when the offender priest made the boys take an oath of secrecy after they were sexually abused? Even the families were pressed to sign an oath of secrecy if they found out. Just because the Catholic church has always just shuffled pedophile priests to different churches when a scandal was about to break doesn't make it right. They need to quit protecting their own, and the Pope could make that happen, but he doesn't. An organization that sets themselves up as the moral compass of a community should have leaders who would be the first ones to turn in a pedophile for prosecution. Instead, they protected themselves and have been doing so all over the world for a very long time.
Even with the highest handicap imaginable, I'll take Tiger by 12 strokes.
