These people were present from the start and the Tea Partiers had no qualms about their behavior, they used excuse after excuse and lie after lie about how "those People" were not representative of their ideas.
At the same time shouting, "Muslim","Kenyan", and showing the President as an African witch doctor with a bone trough the nose sitting in the dirt!!
There was always room to instill doubt as to whether these signs were passively racial or signs used to compare his position on political issues, no one ever took the responsibility to say maybe we should be a little more mindful of the clearly racist connotations many of us present that seem not to be about the issues.
You have people on this board defending the use of these epithats because of the "raping" of the country, how simply transparent is that, as an excuse to spit on people and call them ni@@ers and fa@@ots!!
Now that health care is down to the wire these people are just letting it all hang out!!
I think it should be understood that there are clearly individuals who have "issues" with Obama's ethnic background. Alot of the Birther movement is rooted in this mindset.
OTOH, on the Left, there is a view that anything and everything "Black" is morally superior and any opposition to Obama is a racially-based rejection of said truism.
Both sides have acted in a racially reprehensible manner since he's taken office. The sad thing is he (like yours truly, BTW) is bi-racial.
The question I think everyone needs to ask themselves is how can we begin to seperate the facts from the Bull****. There's alot of right-leaning people on this board who need to do some serious soul searching with regards to how they view Obama and race in general. Alot of people like to close their eyes and say "LaLaLaLaLaLa" whenever racism comes up, and that's unacceptable.
However, that's no reason to vote for a clearly flawed bill rooted in a bankrupt ideology out of some racial guilt trip. For the last year and a half, this board has been spammed with thread after thread about "race" in order to gin up discontent and make a vauge connection btw conservative values and racial animosity.
I don't get it...what's so bad about yelling "asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk!" at a US Congressman?
Come on jfkIII.... you know how racially incensitive "asterisk" is. They should have yelled "comma, comma, comma". Now that would have been politically correct.
How funny! The tea protests have been 99% peaceful as opposed to any left winger protest that are always filled with violence, tear gas, property damage and trash.
"Any left-winger protest?" I guessed you missed the Town Hall meeting my rep (a gay Dem, BTW) had in a tent at our local Labor Day festival. There was a group of people holding signs chanting "health reform now". That was the sum and substance of it.
OTOH, on the Left, there is a view that anything and everything "Black" is morally superior and any opposition to Obama is a racially-based rejection of said truism.
This is simply not true, why is it so hard to understand? The majority on the left do not believe in anyone being morally superior, where did you glean this from? The vast majority on the left believe that people are all the same regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc, and therefore worthy of the same privileges and rights. Asking to be respected and granted the same rights as everyone else is not asking for special treatment, or "moral superiority".
WASHINGTON — Demonstrators outside the U.S. Capitol, angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted "******" Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.
Protesters also shouted obscenities at other members of the Congressional Black Caucus, spat on at least one black lawmaker and confronted an openly gay congressman with taunts.
Come on jfkIII.... you know how racially incensitive "asterisk" is. They should have yelled "comma, comma, comma". Now that would have been politically correct.
Could you just imagine if that 16 year old prankster said..."Attention WalMart customers...all asterisks leave the store now!'
Pity all the other Republicans quoted had no backbone. "We don't agree with it, BUT........"
Just like here on CD, one conservative denouncing this hate speech, and seems to me like all the others agreeing with it. Speaks volumes about the state of conservative politics, and the racial state of the tea party.
