This may or may not have been true in the past.

Social Security is now bankrupt.

If you look at this link (http://www.cbo.gov/budget/factsheets/2009c/oasdiTrustfund.pdf - broken link)

It is a CBO report released last July.

It's a chart of the "Old Age Insurance" and "Disabilty Insurance" OASDI

That is the govt terms for Social Security Trust Fund.

In 2010 Social Security will take in $25 billion less than it pays out.

Social Security is now broke according to the CBO.

Radical righrwingers and their stoogelike supporters will rail against any type of program like Social Security, the worst part is Social Security WORKS!

Of course, the Bachmann's and the Bush's and the Reagan's have all made sure that contributions to S.S. stop at 100K, which means the blue collar rube who watches FOX News and makes around 50K a year pays 100% of his income into Social Security while the guy who makes 23 million a year stops paying at 100K.

Of course, Bachmann and her merry band of rightwing lunatics have no problem takikng your tax dollars and giving them to Wall Street, the Defense Department or a myriad of parasitic "defense contractors" for wars of aggression against nations like Iraq, but keep a safety net for our seniors?

They've convinced their sheeplike followers it's "Un-American"

This a link to a CBO report. It shows Social Security will take in $25 billion less than it will pay out in 2010.

If you call a 25 billion dollar a year deficit "working" then good for you.

And the Baby Boomers are just around the corner.

Democrats have had control for a year now. Have they done anything to fix this? No republican can stop them.

Guess Democrats are protecting the rich.

"No Republican can stop them"????

I think you better look up the meaning of the word "Filibuster".

And yes, Social Security works fine, if it is seeing a potential shortfall of income then taxes needs to be raised on top wage earners to correct this imbalance.

Have a nice evening.

Even an extra $3000 a month, from everyone of working age in the USA, would not pay for SS, as it is managed now.

The baby boomers have caught the curve and went out of bounds.

Time to flush the Progressive entitlements.

Um, ok, so what do you suggest replace Social Security? Please don't say the stock market..kinda what got us in this recent mess. How about some original ideas? Until then, I'll defend the need for Social Security.

Why not let the government keep your tax refund, for SS?

Why do you need a tax refund?
