I always find it humorus, the left hails thier elite institutions of higher learning and say these are the "smart" people, until someone like G.W Bush comes along. Went to Yale, earned a Masters of Business from Harvard, deemed to be the best business school in the country. And somehow he is stupid.
Bush was lucky to have a rich dad that could buy him into Yale, and Harvard. I admit that ivy league schools are overrated. Once you pay your way in you are set.
Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Berkley, Duke etc. why are America's best universities bastions of liberalism? Why is that America's most conservative universities are not academically recognized at the same level as the aforementioned universities. Oral Roberts, Liberty College and other right wing colleges are not given the same consideration. They boast much lower admission statistics in addition to job placement statistics. Why is that conservative colleges are considerably less stellar academically than liberal universities?Also why do leading Conservative commentators like Beck, Hannity and Rush lack college degrees? How do conservatives defend this?

Some people are capable of exercising their powers of observation without formal education. My suspicion is that most people who can't possibly conceive of such a thing are probably formally "educated."

No, you don't have to be educated to comment on issues that define our society. Freedom of speech... A higher education obviously helps however, but it is not a prerequisite for expressing one's self.
One has to be educated in order to have an educated comment on issues that define our society. Otherwise, they're not just expressing their freedom of speech, they're are showing everyone else they are an idiot. Anyone can express themselves, with or without an education. Are you saying that a person without an education who is talking about issues that define our society should be listened to? You seem to be saying that stupid people who vote with their eyes closed and who know nothing about the candidates or issues should be held in the same regard as those who know every line of legislation and every candidate's stand on the issues. In other words, you would hold as equal the bagger at the grocery store and the brain surgeon when you enter the ER...? Or are you downplaying the value placed on education because so many people don't have one?

Liberal means in a manner of freedom. Why conservatives don't ever grasp that is beyond me. A conservative college would be more apt to withhold certain facts because it has an agenda of wanting to conserve certain ideas or values. That pretty much means the education it provides is deficient. A liberal college would allow much more information, more innovation, more opportunity for different ways of thinking, making for, in my opinion, a far better education. Conservative = limiting, by definition. It is not a concept that should be applied to educational systems.
On the other hand, I'm fully aware that even at the college with the most available resources, an education would still lack the secrets that would make each of us powerful human beings. The elite devote alot of energy to maintaining their secrets.

This wasn't always the case...like with most complicated subjects, you have to go back further for your answer than watching Bill Maher or reading a column at the Daily Kos.

Being that I attended one of these schools, I can PERSONALLY attest to this as opposed to reading a book by well known conservative like William F. Buckley. Have you stepped onto any of these campuses let alone attended one of these schools? No sane individual would come away from one of these campuses and say these schools are anything but liberal. Regardless of it's past, why are the overwhelming majority of students who attend these schools liberal? Can conservative students not compete academically with liberal students for admission to these schools? But let me guess, you didn't attend college and were "self educated" like Beck and Hannity?
