CNN announced Thursday that John King, the Sunday morning host best known for his magic wall, is taking over the 7 p.m. slot left vacant by the abrupt resignation of Lou Dobbs.

The decision, described by network sources, amounts to a doubling down on straight news. King, a former Associated Press writer, is known for his reporting and neutral approach to politics, while Dobbs has grown increasingly opinionated in recent years, especially on such issues as his opposition to illegal immigration.

He'll never make it. But is more likely to be kept in line by the CNN crew. Well, as long as he sticks to "the wall".

The days of straight news getting ratings are gone.

He has no chance of making it.

I think John King typically does a very good job of conducting a straight, fair newscast (or at least in comparison to other cable hosts). I'll watch. I do have to say that his appearance bothers me. Don't know why. He just looks odd to me.

He is quite dull. But I agree, he does have an "odd" affect.

John King? yawn.

the problem with CNN isn't that they're liberal. It's that their commentators are all boring and safe. Political leanings have little to do with it. People like to be entertained, regardless what they're watching or why.
