He's an instant celebrity, that's for sure, and given the demographics of his district, it made sense for him to vote for the health care bill. I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a Democrat.

McCain? Who did you vote for when it mattered?

The other choice that had a chance was hussein obama so it mattered very much to vote against him. That would be McCain.

He represents a district that normally votes as a block for Democratic party. The state Democrats have relied upon the New Orleans voters to keep them in power. Remember, these are the same voters who re-elected William Jefferson and their "chocolate city" mayor. Many people of this district rely heavily upon government handouts rather than on themselves. So in a sense, he was voting with the will of his district. That's the honorable thing to say. The truth is he was protecting his re-election bid. If he voted no, he'd probably loose the election.

Bascailyhe might find himself with a new oppontent in the repubican primary;me thinks. Unless he is as powerful as Libermann he is likely to lose if he does not get unfunding that is required.

The undercurrent seems to be that non-white Republicans like Cao are not to be trusted to toe the right wing party line. Are we going to see mass purgings of non-white Republicans in the near future? Stay tuned.

Not really. As I've said before, among the elected politicians in Louisiana there isn't really much difference between Republican and Democrat. Many of these politicians have switched parties depending on which way the public sentiment wind was blowing. That's why I'm still registered as an independent. The Republicans in the state are conservative but there are very little republicans in the New Orleans area. They repeately elect democrats but their status in life remains the same. No, I think he'll run again and will be rewarded by loosing to a liberal Democrat
