I work at an 11 floor hospital. We've had to begun installing toilets that can handle almost 1,000 lbs because patients were breaking our regular toilets. We retrofit some of our toilets to handle a little more than 500 lbs but found this won't be enough. The only cost effective means is to purchase several portable toilets that can withstand 1,000 and bring them out as needed. We currently lease several bariatric patient beds. These beds are so expensive that it is more cost effective to lease the beds as needed. We've had to change the types of chairs in our ER waiting area because some of our guest were complaining they couldn't sit between the arm rest of the previous chairs.
That is interesting, but it does not validate what malamute said.

For each special piece of equipment we purchase or lease, that is a cost that is passed onto the patients. This is something that is happening much more frequently in the past five years. Each morbidly obese patient doesn't come in with one medical condition. He/she comes in with a multitude of medical problems, all of which are related to his or her excessive weight problem. We also need special tools to treat the patient including special size BP cuffs. There's also an added cost to the hospital with back injuries of the medical staff treating these patients.
Other poster stated: Gullible, is allowing the morons in federal government to take over complete control of your health care. Quote: Twice I have asked Alan Greenspan what he considers the greatest threat to the U.S. economy, and both times he has answered immediately with a single word: Medicare.
I wouldn't listen to a word that moron Alan Greenspan has to say.

That still is not proof that most health problems are caused by obestiy, lack of exercise, drinking and drugs.
How is going to an Emergency room "free"? This post makes no sense.
You may be clueless that most of these people at the emergency room with sniffles have no plans to pay, and the hospital has no legal right to deny treatment. Is that not simple enough?
