Only Joe thinks he is important. Nobody else does.

That sounds rather anti semetic the way you word it. But the point is well taken that Liberman does fully support and lobby for US taxpayers to pay for universal care in Israel. But the Israeli heath system is open to ALL citizens of Israel and not just to Jews. If you lived there, you too would come under it.

That's funny, considering he is your 60th vote.

If so, the libs/dems will just have to eat it.
So, if he's not going to run again then he has nothing to lose by standing up and taking a stand.

He has an excellent idea - do reform one step at a time, focusing on the real issues and there would be bipartisan support.

Why do you believe the government option would FIX the current problems?

Not a chance.
If I hear that again I am going to puke. It is funny to me to hear a Republican say "we can't afford it". Those four words mean so much to them. But they certainly never said that in the past!
WAR IN IRAQ: We CAN afford it
EVERY NEW WEAPONS SYSTEM (even ones the military doesn't want and did not ask for): We CAN afford it
WAR IN AFGHANISTAN: We CAN afford it
BILLIONS IN FARM SUBSIDIES (Welfare for red states): We CAN afford it
MEDICARE PART D: We CAN afford it
TRILLION DOLLAR FOREIGN AID: We CAN afford it
BRIDGE TO NOWHERE (for Ted Stevens R- Alaska): We CAN afford it

So when a REPUBLICAN says "we can't afford it" that means "I don't want to afford it".

It does not matter whether Joe likes it or not. If the Democrats cannot get 60, they will pass it with 51 which is all the Constitution requires. They will pass it or they will lose next year and in 2012.

Don't need 60 votes. Need 51. That is all the law requires.

Good for Joe, If he's not reelected at least he's gone out doing the right thing. He can sleep well at night.
