It's all well educated, White, Danish people. How are affluent, White, suburban schools so good at sending kids to college?
This is where the homogeneity of the Danish prove a strong point. Social support systems work well among hard-working, educated people of similar philosophy and values.
This does not transfer well to the U.S., where diversity and "lottery mentality" rule.

This does not reflect well on the Democratic base.
Save $100,000 over 10 years and by the time you have that saved and not making any interest, the buying power is only $10,000 to the day you started saving.
Our heritage is Danish/German and have been to Denmark (the Danes, Scots, and Irish are the nicest people in Europe followed closely by the Dutch).
Reasons for "peace and prosperity" in Denmark-
1. Lack of "diversity"- While diversity is beneficial from a genetic standpoint, cultural diversity is destructive and errosive. When one looks at the economic powerhouses of the globe, they are in nations which LACK "diversity".
2. Work ethic- the "Protestant work ethic" is alive and well in Denmark.
3. educated population- Danes appear to culturally promote and support education.
4. No masses of inner city minorities
5. Low crime rate due to #1,#2, and #4
6. No open borders
7. No NAFTA or China most favored nation trade status
8. No trial lawyer's association
A great place to live is not due to GEOGRAPHY, it is due to the PEOPLE.
I'm going to correct a few of your points. Denmark is a member of the European Union and as such is in both a currency union (Denmark gave up its currency for the Euro and like other Euro nations strikes a coijn with the standard Euro size weight and design on one side and a Danish design on the other. It is leagal tender not only in Denmark but if he gets in his car and drives down to Munich or The Costa del Sol (Spain) he can use his Danish Euros there too and when he gets back home if he has a few Spanish Euros in his pocket he can spend them in Aarhus!) a political union since Denmark sends its reprsentatives to Strasbourg abd Brussels and the ecomonic union which goes far beyond anything the USA is a party to like NAFTA. All member nations in the EU have had to standardize their laws so a uniform code now exists across the EU so a business operating in say Romania or Ireland faces the same regulations regardless of where it is based in the EU. You are very worng about open borders, the borders are just as open as the borders of American states. Citizens of any EU member can live, work or travel anywhere within the EU you don't need visas or work permits or special permisions to buy property. Europe watched the USA and decided that to reach Europes potential it needed to do this. If NAFTA were like this the US Mexico border would be just like the Texas- Oklahoma border and nothing more if Americans or Mexicans wanted to live an work in either nation they could just go and do it.
This mobility has caused some social tensions and their are anti-immigrant, neo-fascist parties gaining some traction in most EU states. Some Europeans are not comfortable with Eastern or Southern Europeans moving to Western Europe to find opportunities not available in their nations. For example in London UK there are communities of Poles, Hungarians, Romanians that weren't there 25 years ago.
Now EU economic integration cuts both ways. Nations like Germany have moved in a big way to expand German businesses into Eastern Europe and German banks were in the vanguard. This came to bit the Germans who loaned a lot of money to Greeks, Irish, Portuguese, Romanians etc. When those economies when south they put the finacial stability of the German financial system in peril. Although it was like pulling teeth the German taxpayers had to bailout their banks or risk the failure of their economy. I don't think the Germans even thought the EU and its banking union could backfire on them like it did. AS for most favored nation trading status the EU has a global network of such agreements that would put the USA to shame. For example, the EU was able to negotiate such an agreement with the South American trading union (Brazil, Argentina, Uraguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Venezula) (Mercosur) whereas the USA failed in simlar negotiations.
So you call me a liar? It is not a nice story. Her name was Birthe Elm. She survived TB and the Nazi occupation only to die of cancer because of lazy doctors. Lived at 1 Vingekrogen in Herlev with my late uncle Sander Elm who survived her by another 15 years. My cousins Pia and Helle still live in Danmark. Notice I use the correct Danish way in spelling the country.
I don't make this stuff up. But you sit there on your high and mighty throne and proclaim offhandedly she didn't exist.
Be interesting to see if this post gets deleted.
...and?
Are you saying she could not have died in the US? If so, you'd be very much mistaken.
With these latest revelations, medical errors now claim the spot as the third leading cause of death in the United States, dwarfing auto accidents, diabetes and everything else besides Cancer and heart disease. Harvard’s Dr. Lucian Leape, the father of the patient safety movement and one of the experts behind the original IOM report, says the numbers in this new study should supplant the IOM estimates from 1999. That means hospitals are killing off the equivalent of the entire population of Atlanta one year, Miami the next, then moving to Oakland, and on and on. Everytime I travel to a different country, I just get this feeling that the US is a very overrated country, it also makes me realize how many lies Americans are told on a daily basis, this whole, "We are the greatest, no one compares to us" is truly a bunch of BS.
I can't remember the last time I heard any politician, or any individual American, proclaim that "America is the greatest country in the world" nor do I get that subliminal message on a daily basis from anywhere. If anything the opposite is happening.
Why does this trope persist in so many people's minds?
Spent a few days in Copenhagen and Arhus and I had the greatest experience. I had been doing some research about Denmark especially given the fact that they are overall the happiest people in the world and the most satisfied with their health care system.

Beautiful country, very safe, no guns, no homeless people, a very happy bunch of people overall
High taxes, and some evil socialism does not seem to be all that bad after all.
Well, you live in Iowa so I wouldn't expect you to think the US is a beautiful country.
Excellent points! And I'll add that when EVERYONE is taxed via a VAT tax, EVERYONE is far more sensitive to government's wasteful spending. The government would be held much more accountable on spending.
I would love something like this, but would they do it AND lower the other taxes, or just add the VAT on top of all the other taxes? That I certainly don't want.
