I found REAL maple syrup. I was very disappointed to learn that Aunt Jemima syrup was really Aunt Jemima "corn syrup"

But I do pay almost double for the real deal but in the long run it's healthier for you.

The govt., or anyone else for that matter, should not even go there. Believe it or not people can become obese by eating organic food that has saturated fats. Do we, then, tax saturated fats?

HFCS though is what brought down the retail prices of many items because it's a cheap substitute for sugar.

True. And I think that this is an argument for removing the subsidies for corn growers. Cheap sweeteners aren't helping the obesity and diabetes problems in this country, but I don't think an actual tax is the way to go. Corn is ubiquitous in our food supply, and HFCS is a handy way for manufacturers to cheaply add "flavor" in the sense of sweetness to otherwise less palatable cheap processed foods. It's so much cheaper than sugar that they can keep the prices low, encouraging poorer and budget-conscious people to buy this junk.

Honestly almost every processed food would get an additional tax. It's in the most random stuff. Plus like someone said before, HFCS is not the only thing contributing to obesity. Exercise and portion control would help a lot.
