NY Times reports that state of Hawaii is taking back its female prisoners currently in detention in eastern Kentucky because of the pattern of sexual assaults (four convictions in past year) in a privately run prison.

Kentucky is one of only a handful of states where it is a misdemeanor rather than a felony for a prison guard to have sex with an inmate, according to the National Institute of Corrections, a policy arm of the Justice Department. A bill to increase the penalties for such sexual misconduct failed to pass in the Kentucky legislature this year.

When the article states that "Kentucky is one of only a handful of states where it is a misdemeanor rather than a felony for a prison guard to have sex with an inmate," are they referring to rape/sexual assault or consensual sexual contact between inmates and prison officials? In any case, I think it is appalling for prison officials to take advantage of inmates and there needs to be more oversight to prevent this from happening.
Not to sound sexist, it is not my intentions. I think that women's prisons should never have a male guard. I know that will not stop all sex by guards, but it will surely cut down on it.

As a female, I don't think that is a sexist idea at all. Women should have some privacy in the intimate quarters of a prison cell and should be guarded by only women. Although sexual assault could happen against female prisoners by female guards, it is not as likely to happen when the guards are male.
