On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan. Yet all Democrats -- with the exceptions of acting chairman Chris Dodd, Barbara Mikulski and Ted Kennedy via proxy -- voted nay.
Even big government Socialist Bernie Sanders chose to 'opt out' as it were of the government program.
Well duh, why would they give up their lifetime health insurance that covers them, their spouses, ex spouses, kids, etc?
They get all the coverage they need basically off the backs of taxpayers but they'd rather taxpayers suffer medical underwriting, rescission of health insurance by the health insurance companies, etc.
Screw all those who are against a public option and voter their butts out of office.
We should also focus our efforts on the state level.
Insurance companies shouldn't be allowed to rescind coverage retroactively and they shouldn't be able to underwrite. This could be done on the state level if the political leadership and will is there.
I don't see this happening in my own state but I would gladly move to another state that made such moves.

and maybe they shouldn't be giving themselves raises and blasting the ceo's of businesses that got buyouts over bonuses.
I would love to see them on a gov't plan. long waits and rationed care for all!!!!

There won't be rationed care and as for long waits, that is happening now.
I sometimes have to wait months to see my primary doctor...the few times I do see her.
I would love to see them try to get an individual health care plan and see how much luck they have. Most of them are in their 60s and have so many pre-existing conditions, no one would touch them.
Of course some health insurance companies deny people for having acne, hay fever, for ever having an ear infection, so I am pretty sure NO ONE in Congress could buy their own individual health care plan.

if you have to wait months to see your doctor, find a new doctor. I can get a sameday appt if I am sick and if not, there are 24hr acute care clinics that cost me the same copay.
Do you know how many people the federal gov't employs? I'm sure they would get great rates with that many people!

11 Democratic members voted no, including Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), who said, "I don't know why we should require ourselves to participate in a plan that no one else needs to participate in."
