They are among several large U.S. banks that were expected to refund TARP money Wednesday, the first day that many banks were eligible to do so under the $700 billion rescue program’s rules.

Under TARP, several large banks had to meet government “stress test” requirements before getting permission to repay funds.

U.S. Bank had previously announced its plans to redeem the preferred stock issued to the Treasury, and last week it received approval from the government to do so. U.S. Bank also told the Treasury it intends to repurchase the 10-year warrant it had issued along with the preferred stock.

“The redemption allows our company to return to operating from a position of both independent strength and strategic flexibility,” said Richard Davis, the company’s president, CEO and chairman, in a statement.
U.S. Bank, Chase repay TARP money - Phoenix Business Journal:

B-b-but wait! How can the US really be turning Socialist if the gubmint just sits back and lets the banks repay their TARP funds?

Comrade Obama, you're really screwing up the plot here.....

I just want to know how the Socialist Obama expects to maintain his stranglehold on All We Hold Dear if he's just going to let the banks repay their TARP fundage. What will he have left to claim in the name of ACORN?

If they don't need it, then it should be returned. This is good news.

How many shares of stock were sold from the US Governments asset books, to the public? When the Government no longer owns ANY stocks, then and only then will it not be socialists.

This is a repayment of LOANS, it has absolutely positively NOTHING to do with the reality that the government owns STOCKS and EQUITY in private firms, which is socialism.. To try to mingle the "loans" with "equity" either means you dont know what your talking about, or your trying to confuse those that think they are one of the same which they are not..
