During the stimulus debate, "The attack on pandemic preparation became so central to the GOP strategies that AP reported in February: "Republicans, meanwhile, plan to push for broader and deeper tax cuts, to trim major spending provisions that support Democrats' longer-term policy goals, and to try to knock out what they consider questionable spending items, such as $870 million to combat the flu and $400 million to slow the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases."
And to think Texas governor Rick Perry, who just a few weeks ago was talking about secession from the USA, is now asking the CDC (Ipart of that big, evil federal government) for help. ROTFL!
Collins is more of a Centrist and well liked by her constituents. I don't happen to be a republican and though I disagree with some of her political views, I like her. Americans (imo generally) were shocked at the size of the bill for the recovery act. Most of D.C. had an "earmark in the porkbarrel" and many were looking for something to "trim the fat". It's always going to be some controversy on where the $ goes, be it "volcano monitering" or the CDC.
Now, how about those squirrels in Colorado? Squirrels carry bubonic plague!
Maybe the CDC can sign and stamp a few papers and that'll make the pandemic go away?
And here I figured the wingnut solution would be to torture the pandemic to make it go away (or respond with tax cuts for the wealthy).
That funding was for things like vaccines, masks, etc (which Cheney's buddies don't seem to sell)- doesn't look so "wasteful "now does it?
