Fair Tax proponents know not law. Nor would the Fair Tax be fair. Believe me, when I tell you that I know their logic is faulty. I wrote a book on the idea of a retail sales tax. And only later discovered my grievous error. (Eating humble pie flag on)

1. Any national retail sales tax is unconstitutional for the simple reason that it taxes your right to contract, and trade. No right is subject to taxation.

2. But current state retail sales taxes are legitimate taxes on the privilege to use worthless paper dollars as legal tender.

Another mistake that the Fair Taxers make is that they believe they can swap in a 23% retail sales tax to replace a 35% income tax. They don't realize how much tax shift inflation is hidden in the retail price right now. Eliminating the income tax will result in 40 - 60% deflation, and that will impact the estimated GDP and thus the percentage needed for the Federal budget.

The tragedy is that by the time the dust settles, the "Fair Tax" would probably rise to 50 - 55% to cover the budget shortfalls.

It is more important to drive down the Federal budget by 95%.
How?
  • Eliminate national socialism / socialist insecurity. That cuts at least 55% from the budget - more likely to take out 65%.
  • Void the national debt based on usury, an impossible contract. That cuts the interest from the budget.
  • Cut all Federal salaries by 60%, and end all pensions for "public servants". Pensions from the public treasury are poison to liberty.
  • Pull back American troops and close foreign bases, tell the hosts thank you and good-bye. The constitution does not delegate the Congress to "defend democracy" across the globe when it's supposed to guarantee a "republican form" to the States united.
The founding generation understood government and taxes far better than this generation. We have suffered 3 generations of indoctrination to be good socialist peons. So it is no surprise that no one remembers that all taxes are VOLUNTARY.

From the Virginia Constitution 1776 :
SEC. 6. That elections of members to serve as representatives of the people, in assembly, ought to be free; and that all men, having sufficient evidence of permanent common interest with, and attachment to, the community, have the right of suffrage, and cannot be taxed or deprived of their property for public uses, without their own consent, or that of their representatives so elected, nor bound by any law to which they have not, in like manner, assembled, for the public good.
  • All men ... cannot be taxed without their own consent.
  • All men ... cannot be deprived of their property for public uses without their own consent.
  • All men ... cannot be bound by any law that is not for the public good.

Consent means the power to say "NO!"

With all due respect to those who advocate a progressive national retail sales tax - please study the organic documents and laws before throwing America under the bus.

If ever America returns to lawful metallic coin, all excise taxes (sales taxes) on the privilege to use worthless paper and counterfeit coin would be void.

If ever Americans restored their lost sovereignty, their private property rights would not be subject to taxation, nor would their liberties.

Governments make nothing but more government. Like a cancer, feeding it with tax revenues does not tame it, regardless of the source. If you really think a retail sales tax is an "ideal" way to fund government, you are mistaken.

Remember that governments are instituted among men to (a) secure rights and (b) govern those who consent. If you don't consent, all government is authorized to do is help secure rights. And that does not require indentured servitude to enrich the public servants and officials.

Public service must always be a step DOWN in status, wealth, and power, lest the servants become the master.

How about you actually come up with your own ideas instead of cutting and pasting someone else's without even giving the other an attribution. Also it is against site rules to quote so much.

Duh?
The only thing that was someone else's was the Virginia Constitution reference.

Perhaps you mistake organized structure as "quotations" (which require quotation marks).

Sure, go for it. In fact, since the Fair Tax is unworkable, and the country is headed for an economic train wreck under the income tax, you simply haven't gone far enough with the cost cutting.

Close the military bases overseas, and most of them at home. Make every person serve 1 year for training, unless the training (that they want) takes longer than that. Keep a core volunteer military for the hi-tech stuff - flying jets, etc, and release everyone else.

Stand up the citizen militias, composed of everyone who has training. That would be essentially everyone. Drill 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks continuous as the NG does now, only this would be the "unorganized militia", that is composed of citizens bearing their own firearms. Defend the country from invasion that way. Don't worry about going overseas ever again, unless congress is willing to declare war. Every citizen would be required to own their own military weapon, and keep it in their own homes for defense of themselves and the country - a full-auto M-4 or M-16 in the closet of every home should be a strong deterrent.

Yes, abolish all the socialist junk. Medicare, Medicade, Social Security, all of that. Didn't save enough to retire? Tough beans, get a job. No more sitting around on the gov't's nickle. Need health care? Too bad, move to Canada. This is no longer a socialist state.

Yes, we must return to the gold standard. Never mind that there is only 900 billion dollars worth of gold that has ever been mined, we can do this if we really try. We can lock every last gram of gold up in Ft. Knox, and declare it to be worth $100,000 an ounce, and then maybe we'll have enough.

And too bad about all those excise taxes on booze and tobacco that we were using before they passed the income tax - I guess those were "voluntary" and illegal, too.

Hey, the Fair Tax is voluntary too. Don't want to pay it, don' buy anything... just raise your own food, etc. and don't do the "trade" thing.

Oh, and we are WAAAAAAAY too economically hung out to be affording such friviolities as NASA. Ditch the space program. Private industry can handle weather and communicataions satellites, and the military, one of those things that IS in the consitution, will handle the GPS. At least we can still have that.

Other possible gov't agencies to delete and save a pile of $$$ - DEA, EPA, HHS, CDC, FBI, NSA, CIA, Post Office, Amtrak, etc. etc. - lots of these things that either don't need doing at all (DEA - legalize all the drugs, tax 'em, and help the budget) or can be done by someone else.

And by all means cut the Fed's salaries 60% across the board. Of course, you can watch them all make an exodus to private industry, get greater salaries than they're making now, and do the complex engineering to point the guns on our Navy Ships and engineer the targeting of our cruise missiles, all for probably twice the price that its costing now. IOW, gov't engineers that leave the gov't for private industry generally make MORE $$$$ than they were making with the gov't.

Sure glad you got all that figured out, execpt for the part I added to. Yep, we should make the USA the Utopia it deserves to be, with the old slackers trailing their oxygen bottles to their poverty-level jobs at McDonalds and Wendys and Wal Mart. Hope its you that's stuck behind 'em on the highway, BTW.

I don't believe for one minute deflation will be 40-60 percent. Please show some legitimate sources.

The bigger it is, the more it costs.

Tell you what - why don't we just say that the poverty level is as much money as you're legally allowed to make. Any more than that, just send it in. Your government needs it. Then we can get the gov't providing everyone housing, you can have a free apartment in amongst all the drug dealers, etc. The only ones with housese like we're used to will be those that are politically well-connected - member of "the party", comrade.

Of course, then someone may come to the conclusion that those 250 million guns in private hands in this country are not really best used for hunting, but for "political purposes."
