I recently noted that Canadian TV doesn't suffer from the same visual pollution that the FCC allows on American TV - i.e. pop up ads, sound blips, animations and other graffiti that mar the program material.
Why do Americans meekly accept it?
You wouldn't tolerate such annoyances during a movie, or musical theater, or an art exhibit, so why should American audiences suffer?
And why did the FCC abandon their role as "watchmen" for the public airwaves being used for private profit?
They're OUR public airwaves, and we're not going to take it anymore. The licensed broadcasters (satellite and cable, too), are incapable of self restraint, and we better let them know it.
What do we want?
ZERO tolerance for graffiti on program material - no ads, alerts, crawling text, sound blips, pop ups, persistent channel and network IDs, and so on.
Any broadcaster that inflicts graffiti should LOSE THEIR LICENSE!
Meanwhile, a friend of mine with a considerable posterior is jokingly offering ad men billboard space to cover her weight watchers expenses. How ingenius!
