To those of you who are up in arms about health care proposals- who do you think pays for uncompensated care now?!
A sick person without insurance will often wait until they require an emergency room visit- or worse, symptoms that go untreated and result in an inpatient hosptial stay of much higher cost to.....the taxpayer.
The working uninsured go to work sick, often creating more health problems that cause them to miss work- affecting the economy. Or become unemployed because an untreated medical condition becomes serious enough that they can no longer work- affecting the economy.
What about a family day care provider that looks after six kids. Gets sick, can't afford to go to the doctor. Gets sicker, is admitted to the hospital. Then ya got six families that have to miss work until they find childcare- affecting the economy.
We have been "paying" for the uninsured forever. And not just in uncompensated health care.
Most of the people without insurance are employed.

This is a good point. A large part of the health care cost is to cover the uninsured.
I don't know why people don't seem to understand this. we are already paying for the uninsured! Our health care system is the most costly in the world, so we're paying A LOT for them! Something needs to change!
