There's a biblical verse in Revelations, I believe, about *money being thrown in the streets*. I never understood (did it mean money was worthless?) nor paid a lot of attention to it until just recently when our economy got in such a mess.

To me, the worst of our economic nightmares seem to have started when the government decided to bail out one very economically sensitive business. Then everybody started getting in line. Now it seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry have their hands out for "stimulus money". Our front page news today was "Greenville's stimulus check is on it's way.." Where was it going?? To remove lead based paint in older buildings. (which has been around for how many years so far without needing help)

What worries me is who's going to pay for this debt down the road. Isn't this the very thing *THEY*'re telling us that got us "little people" in trouble and caused all this?? Because we borrowed too much?

Rants/debates on govt spending are welcomed..

Yeah, but in the Politics forum, not in the regional forums. You'll find a bunch of pholks over there who are more than anxious to rant with you.

I wish everyone was worried about debt and deficits years ago. And by everyone I mean individuals, political pundits, governments.

Our govt. has been writing checks with money they don't have for most of the last 30 years.

The money come from? The printing press and China, Japan, and Britain. At some point, it will be time to pay up. Expect inflation and taxes to go way up. Possibly expect the value of the dollar to evaporate should China lose confidence in our economy. Read about previous administration's attempts to introduce big gov't spending and the inflation/taxes that went up as a result.

MaryJane ... you ... your children ... your grandchildren ... your great grandchildren and perhaps even your great great grandchildren will be repaying all the money.

When I was younger I always wanted to be a millionaire ... now that is such a paltry sum ... the way billions and trillions are being thrown around now. It is very depressing.

CarolinaWoman is right....we will be repaying it as well as our future generations. I'm just hoping that when I turn 65 (or whatever the age is now) there will be enough money for me to draw Social Security, after paying into it for 50 years! By the time my grandson is old enough to be in the workforce, this country will probably be narrowed down to 2 classes: rich and poor.....or maybe just one: poor.
