Here's a thought: why should we have to do any handwashing? Why couldn't we just get out--whether or not we declare victory is irrelevant, since Iraq was a mess before we got involved, and our being there hasn't changed much. (If they want a democracy, that will be their choice).

Sure--there are a few. For the rest, it's like the old observation, "We already know what you are, madam, we're just haggling over the price."

Well, the figures from November are better than they were in November of last year, but Iraq is still a violent place:

Dozens killed in Iraqi bombings

Quote:
Official figures showed that 296 civilians were killed in Iraq last month, 58 higher than in October, partly because of more bombings in Baghdad.
So, an increase in the number of Iraqis killed from militant violence. There were, though, only seven US forces deaths from hostile fire in November, out of 17 total.

Is that victory?

Well, maybe it's close enough.

Depends on which side you ask. For the Vietnamese, April 30, 1975.

We can just add Iraq to the other shining victories we've achieved in the last few decades, including but not limited to the Victory in Lebanon, Victory in Bosnia and Victory in Grenada.
