(I don't know what forum this belongs on so I put it here)
They have approached me with this numerous times. My opinion is that 100% of these people are liars. How many people go out of the house without wallet and get stranded and need to bum money? Who the hell is that inept?
I usually walk on by and say sorry. I'm in NYC a lot so this happens frequently. Once it was two teenagers, I offered to buy them train tickets home and they stammered and walked away
Not a scam, but I was always asked by other kids when growing up. I felt sorry for them but never gave them anything. Now they are still like that and I'm better off!!!!!!
The last time some did this to me I told them that if they were stranded they should call the police and see if they could get a ride from them. They got angry at me.
Scam or not, I really don't care. If some one needs money, for whatever reason and I am have a bit to spare, I give give them something, not all of the time, but often enough. I also don't give a lot but I do give them something.

I agree. There are some out on the streets that you just KNOW are having hard times, it's obvious. Then there are those younger kids, I call them the gutter rats, who are complete *******s & totally harass you if you don't give them money. They're young, they're able to get a job, I'm not sure exactly what they're problem is. I got into a verbal fight w/one of them when I saw one of the guys kick his dog. Anyway, people asking me for money usually isn't a problem, sometimes it's annoying, sometimes I ignore them & sometimes if I have cash I'll give it to them. It's no skin off my back & it's an interaction that lasts like a minute in my day, how can that possibly affect anyone so negatively?
