Senator Ted Stevens has just won the Republican primary for the senate seat from Alaska which he has been warming for the past 34 years. This is despite the fact that he is under a federal indictment for criminal law violations.

Remember how people criticized the citizenry of DC for voting for Marion Barry? Or the NOLA folks for returning William Jefferson to Congress? That's right -- this is different. Jefferson had not been indicted when he was re-elected.

Don't forget that Alaska's only representative, Cong. Young, is also under an ethics cloud. Those wacky Alaska Republicans!

One problem was that Stevens had five different opponents, and the anti-Stevens vote never congealed around any single candidate.
