China sold a record amount of Treasury and US agency bonds in the first quarter, highlighting the Asian nation’s move to diversify away from American assets as trade tensions persist.

Beijing offloaded a total of $53.3 billion of Treasuries and agency bonds combined in the first quarter, according to calculations based on the latest data from the US Department of the Treasury. Belgium, often seen as a custodian of China’s holdings, disposed of $22 billion of Treasuries during the period.
What first shot was that? China sold the bonds in the Jan-Mar period. Biden announced the new tariffs in May.

They can actually live on less money.

Cost of living in China is, on average, 54.5% lower than in United States.
Rent in China is, on average, 71.7% lower than in United States.
Lol, that kind of goes without saying, doesn't ?

I guess making EVs affordable enough so large numbers of US drivers buy them 'to save the planet' is not a priority anymore.

China has no domestic demand to speak of as their largest generation has aged into their 50s and 60s. The subsequent generations that follow are demographically depleted. Without exports to Europe and the United States, the remains of China's economy are toast. The US will win in the end.

Which is bad news for America. The US doesn’t even trust China with Tik Tok, and now Europe will be flooded with Chinese EVs for all that awesome spying and chips.
