Just received this in email from the Missouri Department of Transportation. We get notices like this quite often. Individually, there's nothing particularly remarkable about any of them, really. Collectively, they create a massive web of laws, regulations... and fines. Lots of fines.

When I saw this, I was reminded of just how much red tape and expense an owner/operator has to go through just to be on the road. It's amazing that so many are willing to do it.

We are such an over-regulated country.

(IFTA is the International Fuel Tax Agreement, the association of states & provinces which collect fuel taxes from commercial vehicle operators).

Quote:
New IFTA rule could trigger need to prove MPG accuracy

A new, nationwide International Fuel Tax Agreement clearinghouse rule requires all IFTA tax returns reporting an average of less than 4 mpg - or more than 10 mpg - to provide proof of MPG accuracy.

Beginning with the First Quarter 2022 return, due April 30, the online MoDOT Carrier Express system will note the return's average mpg. If the mileage rate is below the 4 mpg or above the 10 mpg parameter set by IFTA, Inc., MCE will require the upload of a supporting document before a tax return can be completed.

The supporting documentation can be a simple handwritten note stating the facts supporting the MPG in the less-than-4 mpg or more-than-10 mpg ranges.

MCS will review the submitted tax return and supporting documentation, then approve, or send a request to the carrier for additional clarification.

Through the IFTA program, Missouri collects and refunds taxes for all states and provinces who participate. We must be ready to prove proof of mpg accuracy to any impacted jurisdiction on request.

The Bureaucrats and their "Green Energy" hellish hegemony comports perfectly with this example of overzealous "regulation".

More government is always the solution, and less freedom for the citizen.

Yikes.... the feds needs to meddle less in state affairs. Hopefully the governors stand up for our rights where it matters. They have been a beacon of shining light in what would have otherwise been a nightmare of Orwellian regulation over our lives. When this nation was founded not everyone supported strong states rights. Thankfully they made the right choice.

What's the deal with between 4 and 10MPG? Is that the MPG all the ruling classes private yachts get or something?

The thing is with all this red tape it only affects the law abiding but when it comes to the criminals the authorities will conveniently look the other way because they do not have the time, resources or political will to chase them down.

What would happen if enough of us just say NO ?

Nope, things like this continue, DESPITE which political party is in power at any given time, or who happens to be Mayor of the city, Gov of the state, etc

If citizens banded together and just refused to pay this crap, there is nothing they could do about it!

Im blown away that citizens today give whatever they are asked, there is NOTHING citizens refuse to pay, we have become far too compliant, and our govt takes advantage of that...I dont blame the govt or politicians, fed, state or local level...its their nature to do these things, of course they are going to rape and pillage if its tolerated!

I repeat, you get what you VOTE for.

I put it in caps and bold so would see it this time.

Are you so ill informed you don't know anything about WHY the new Governor of Virginia got elected?

"and just refused to pay this crap"

I did NOT mention "pay" at all.
