Just like today, we look back at some of the TERRIBLE decisions and actions taken and cannot believe people actually did such things, the same will likely hold true in the future, they will not believe some of the actions our generation made.

The best part about this book being banned is that demand has gone through the roof. Online booksellers are out or getting there, libraries have long waiting lists, and used copies have doubled in a couple of days. This is going to have an impact, but exactly opposite what the Tennessee Nazis intended.

And yes, I used "Nazis" intentionally. Nazis ban books. Americans don't.

Maybe the school board confused the graphic novel Maus about the holocaust with the movie, "The Maus" which is unrelated to the novel Maus. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5586362/?ref_=ttmi_tt

This movie may not appropriate for 8th grade because of the violence?

I wish somebody could come up with a term other than banned.

Schools as well as public libraries have budgets. Books are bought based on topics, age qualifications etc.

Anne Frank was 13 when she wrote her diary. Many children died in Auschwitz and other concentration camps. There is no reason to protect middle schoolers from the truth about Nazis. Knowledge is power.

No a different book has not yet been chosen. They banned Maus and said they will pick one later.

They have not yet picked a book.

They have not only removed it from the curriculum they have BANNED it -- that means not allowed it in the schools at all.
