A couple of lefty types have suggested triaging the unvaccinated to the back of the line at hospitals if the unvaccinated catch Covid and arrive for treatment. (https://www.city-data.com/forum/polit...accinated.html)
The 'logic' being that the unvaccinated have put themselves in a bad position if seriously ill from Covid and the vaccinated should not then have to pay for the costs of treating the unvaccinated or deal with hospital delays due to the care of the unvaccinated.
Obesity* is a recognized risk factor for severe COVID-19 (1,2), possibly related to chronic inflammation that disrupts immune and thrombogenic responses to pathogens (3) as well as to impaired lung function from excess weight (4). https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7010e4.htm
Certainly the obese know of their highly publicized Covid risk factors and the benefits of shedding the pounds. And yet they continue to stuff in the food and lay around - thus putting themselves in a bad position. Why should the rest of us pay for the costs of treating the overweight or deal with hospital delays due to the care of the overweight? Time to triage the fatties to the back of the line at hospitals if they catch Covid and arrive for treatment. Vaccinated or unvaccinated.
And why confine the triaging of the fatties to this pandemic? Surely they know the risks of obesity and the benefits of slimming down. So triage them going forward. Ditto the smokers.

Yep. Get on the scale fatty. If you are over a certain BMI, go home.
This cohort study found that metabolic syndrome, diagnosed by the clustering of obesity, prediabetes or diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, was associated with significantly increased mortality and ARDS in a global population of hospitalized patients with COVID-19. This increased risk was cumulative, with the proportion of ARDS increasing with each added metabolic syndrome criteria
If they chose not to be vaccinated, sure, I guess?

Yes. The morbidly obese are an unacceptable drain on public health resources.
