UN Human Rights Council urged to respect Tibetans’ cultural rights in education

Link in article above. Any bets on what the U.N.'s "Human Rights Council" will do? And for more on a true and ignored human rights catastrophe, see Why Tibet Matters in Today's World (link). Helpless and harmless Tibet was overrun in 1951 by troops from Mao's People's Republic of China. Now keep in mind Tibet never hurt anyone. No massacres at airports, Olympic venues, or New York City skyscrapers.

Time to pay attention to some other human rights violators other than Israel. And this is its own thread. Some people have complained about "whataboutism" so here you go.

Tibet is a tough call. I was there 8 years ago and had the opportunity to see some of it first-hand.

It's human nature to want self-rule but the place was/is a primitive backwater. The Chinese have poured a fortune into modernization, more than they spend in much of China itself. New roads, airport, railroad, hotels, hospitals, retail, etc.. They have also resettled so many Han Chinese to Tibet that they are now the majority there.

Traditional Tibetan life is extremely harsh and the local people appeared to spend much of their time in prayer. From an American perspective, the Chinese have vastly improved the quality of life there.

Then again, China is an occupying force, even if a mostly benevolent one.

Tough call.

America loves destroying ethnic culture for 'commerce'.

In fact if you want to preserve anything in this country the people will scream at you and call you a communist and demand progress above everything else.

China is just doing things the American way. Have you been to Tibet? The Tibetans are not protesting this bourgeoise life style thrusted upon them.

I'm sure you feel the same benevolence about Israel's creation and takeover of bordering areas for security.

I'm not sure what you mean by this (and I have been there)? They continuously protest the Chinese takeover.

Having modern conveniences like electricity, running water, heat that doesn't come from burning up the remainder of your trees, flush toilets, and modern medicine, are positives.

Having your culture turned into a tourist attraction, not so much.

You can only have as many human rights in Tibet as China will allow. Looking at the Uighur (sp?) situation, they don't seem to tolerate much dissention.

This poster wins. I opened a new thread at his or her urging.

Human Rights Issues that get ignored while Israel/Palestine gets endless obsessive attention:
  • The illegal conquest and cultural erasure of Tibet.
  • The Uighur genocide.
  • The Armenian genocide.
  • The Falun Gong mass-murders.
  • The crushing of freedom in Hong Kong.
  • The illegal occupation of Crimea by Russia.
  • The illegal occupation of 1/2 of Cyprus by Turkey.
  • The mass-persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt.
  • The mass-persecution of Christians in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and pretty much everywhere there is a Muslim majority.
  • The ongoing systematic mass murder of white farmers in South Africa.
  • The UK ignoring 40 decades or more of widespread systematic rape, trafficking and sexual slavery of white British girls by Muslims within the UK itself.
  • Half a dozen tribal genocides spread all across Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Black slaves being sold into slavery in Libya right now.
  • The rise of China -- the most Nazi-like threat we've seen since Nazi Germany.
  • The increasing boldness of Russia, another Nazi-like threat.

Unlike Israel, China provides this lifestyle for Tibetans.

Israelis just move in to the west bank and force Palestinians out.

I see what you’re doing here. Good! Catch them in their own hypocrisy and double standards where Israel is concerned. It won’t be difficult.
