A coach of Asian ancestry was turned down for a coaching position because he was not the right kind of minority they were looking for. Wouldn’t this count as racial discrimination?

He should not get a job because he is Asian. A African American should not get a job because they are black. Affirmative action is discrimination plain and simple. The best and the brightest should get hired based upon their qualifications. Race should not enter in it. Nothing more racist than affirmative action and it should be outlawed!

For years the NJ State Police had a consent decree with the Attorney Generals office about minority hiring and recruitment. I didn't wind up there but I scored high and didn't get it. I got picked up somewhere else.

I hear you. My father scored #1 on the Lt's test. Affirmative action was in full swing during the 80's. The blacks sued and won saying the test was discriminatory. So they did another test and my dad scored #1 again. It delayed his promotion for 7 years. That was 7 years of lost salary and he would have moved up even higher in the police department. People say that there is nothing wrong with affirmative action and that is does not affect people in a negative way. I have first hand experience seeing how it affected my dad. It was not a positive but a huge negative.

I know people who scored high 90s in the civil service test for police and fire and the interviewers would more or less admit a quota system was in play at end of their rather short interviews(if they got one). Others recieved a vague form letter stating due to such and such a court ruling 50% of all hires will be of minority status. Same frequently applies to promotions as well depending on the town.
