In California, most judges are Democrats. They won't hold anyone.
Sounds like you made that up.
So "small government, strict Constitutionalist" conservatives want people held in jail before trial. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? There is no legal basis to hold everyone in jail just because they've been accused -- unless the person poses a clear and present violent danger to society.
Whats the alternative...allow bail and give the wealthy an advantage?
Of course, the wealthy deserve better treatment because they are wealthy. Can't have them treated like common criminals, can we? (for the simple minded, that was sarcasm)

If you want to be a comedian, that's a good start. Harris County, where Houston is located, has kept people in jail past the length of the average sentence simply because they couldn't make bail. If bail were calculated on ability to pay, rather than using a schedule that applies the same amount for everyone, this wouldn't be an issue. But, judges are often lazy, and using a bail schedule means they don' thave to work as hard, and it gives them cover if something goes wrong.
Oh, you are wrong on that, check your local jail and see how many are sitting behind bars, unable to pay their high bail...There are quite a few in my area, the judges make the bail high on purpose, knowing they cannot pay it.
Here is a case in the San Francisco Bay area where a criminal was arrested and then released for at least 35 separate crimes while awaiting trial. He was eventually required to wear an ankle monitor which he later disabled.
Ultimately he and two other criminals tried to rob an Asian man, who managed to wrestle the gun away from the perp, 21 year-old Vermond Jones, and killed him with it. (Note: There is now a tribute video to the perp on YouTube called "Long Live Vermond Jones".

On Wednesday, April 29th, at about 8:28 a.m., our officers responded to a call of a male who was attempting to break into a vehicle in the 1400 block of South Grand Ave. When we arrived, we contacted Dijon Landrum, M/24, from Monterey Park, as he was attempting to drive away in a stolen vehicle. (The vehicle had been stolen out of East Los Angeles.) In addition to driving a stolen vehicle, he had stolen property and narcotics with him. Landrum was arrested. Due to the California Zero-Bail Policy, he was issued a citation and released.
Approximately one hour after Landrum was released, at about 2:20 p.m., we received a call of unknown male in the area of Bennett and Pennsylvania. This male was carrying a box, and was walking through front yards of residences. It appeared that the male was placing items in this box as he was walking through the properties. When we arrived, we contacted Dijon Landrum a second time, and it appeared he had property in his possession that did not belong to him. Due to the California Zero-Bail Policy, he was issued a citation, and the property was recovered by our officers.
Several hours later, at 8:49 p.m., we received a call of a vehicle that had just been stolen out of a parking lot in the 1300 block of South Grand Ave. Our officers were able to track the vehicle and found it westbound on the 10 freeway in the area of La Puente. With assistance from outside agencies (LA County Sheriffs and California Highway Patrol), they located the vehicle and a pursuit began. The pursuit ultimately ended in Pasadena, and Dijon Landrum was again arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, and also for evading officers. Due to the California Zero-Bail Policy, Landrum was released with his third citation of the day.
We want to thank all of the citizens that helped with this investigation, particularly those that called when they noticed something suspicious. So sounds like the Glendora PD is too lazy or unwilling to go to a judge, so they issue a ticket and post on Facebook instead, blaming zero bail for their poor job performance.
Sounds like the Glendora PD might know that their judges aren't going to deny a guy bail over a stolen car or stolen property like in the first 2 cases.
They're also likely not making the decision themselves and instead following department guidelines.
sounds like mr mustard missed a few mental health appointments...being the neighborhood nut is not grounds for executions
But stealing cars is not fair to the owners.
