One might think this is just right wing media trying to play up an issue that isn't that bad.
My woke adjunct college professor cousin just returned from southern california. Said it is a disaster. Of course the reasons behind it are all "expensive housing" and stuff, when in reality it's just 90% drug addicts moving to where the weather is warm, drugs are easy to come by, and policing lax.
Yet with a per capita GDP of $80,170 vs NC's 56,862 or PA's 64412 or VA's
65824, I would submit that with CA's high housing costs that their citizenry is well behind in standard of living and that CA's total GDP is more driven by state population than the general wealth of its residents.
Irrelevant to California’s “crumbling” economy. 5th largest economy in the world. Bigger economy than some entire countries.
One of the things I tell people who are new to living in cities is that if they see homeless people, it means the neighborhoods are safe, sunny, and convenient. The homeless are always outside so safety and weather are very important; and they can pick any neighborhood they want since where their "home" unbounded by how much the house cost.
Many people have this impression that the homeless would live in bad run down ghettos. Why would they do that? If you're homeless would you choose to live in California or Oklahoma? Would you choose a nice sunny rich neighborhood or a bad run-down ghetto where you risk getting attacked?

Good Lord this is clueless and borderline disingenuous.
