No I wouldn't. I visited about 4 years ago and I thought NY has become touristy but seemed much safer than the 1980's when I lived there. I thought it was too bad that NY lost much of its character, the old landmark restaurants and bookstores are gone. Even the restaurants that remain have turned into tourist traps. I also didn't hear the NY accent as often. I thought, well, at least it's safer. And the Met is still there (full of tourists). But now in 2021 the crime is back and worse.
I've gone to NYC for a few days about once/year for a while now. I obviously didn't travel during the pandemic, but assuming that dies down this year, I see no reason not to visit the city again. I work with a lot of people based in the city, and think the idea that crime is 'spiraling out of control' is a bit silly.
It is the largest tourism campaign in New York history. Meanwhile New York City and state politicians are letting crime spiral out of control. Will you visit New York?
Does BLM craptivists standing on restaurant tables, screaming at White people to get the F out of NY part of the tourism campaign?
My wife and I had long talked about taking the kids up to New York for the weekend, when they were old enough to really enjoy it. Well, they're old enough now. And we're not going. I don't feel like providing targets for the knockout game, knowing as I do that the police have had their hands tied and so won't protect me.
